Behind these waves sat the Papercuts’ Jason Quever, joining the duo for most of the night in tastefully fleshing out the band’s simple drum loops with subtle bursts of live percussion. The result was a hypnotizing set that established a sense of cohesiveness early, the performance opening with the first three tracks of Devotion played sequentially.
From there, the selections alternated between Devotion and their eponymous debut, never wavering from the overpowering but intimate beauty that defines their songwriting. As Legrand told EAR FARM back in February, “the best shows are the ones where the people are there because they’re curious or want to hear a story and feel intimate. Even a large space can feel intimate, it’s just really a gamble.”
