You probably know Susan G. Komen for the Cure for the annual race to raise money for breast cancer in St. Louis. The local affiliate has raised $19 million and NewsChannel Five has been a sponsor for the past 12 years.

Nationally, Komen has invested nearly $1.5 billion in breast cancer research and support. It's a powerful fundraiser that's now going to lengths to preserve that power. Legally challenging any other groups that use "for the Cure" in its name; groups like "Cupcakes for a Cure" and even "Mush for a Cure" in Minnesota.

BIG NEWS for Cupcake Camp Montreal!

With just over a week until the big day we have exceeded out goal of 15,000 cupcakes pledged! To ensure everyone has room to enjoy their cupcakes we have decided to move the event to a bigger venue. Cupcake Camp Montreal will now take place on Sunday November 21, 2010 from 1-5pm at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth.

Name ring a bell? The Queen Elizabeth hotel is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their famous 1969 Bed In. We also hope to make a bit of history of and spread the love by raising lots of money for or our awesome charities Kids Help Phone and Tablee des Chefs but we can't do it ourselves!

To make this event a success we need not only cupcake bakers but also cupcake eaters. A $10 donation entitles attendees to admission to the event, 3 cupcakes, and a gourmet coffee. Additional cupcakes can be purchased on site at a cost of $2 for one cupcake, $5 for 3 cupcakes, or $10 for 7 cupcakes.

We don’t want any leftovers so we need A LOT of people to attend the event to eat all 15,000 cupcakes. valentine's day Fugazi Covers Project for Charity - Bands Wanted

valentine's day Christina Da Costa, Jeffry Opdyke, Michael Sowiski, and Phil Rosenbloom have put together a benefit project for charity - Fugazi has agreed to let them produce and sell the album - and they're looking for more bands to participate.

The foursome is participating in Braking the Cycle (a 275 mile benefit bike tour which supports HIV/AIDS services provided by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York City) and decided that putting together, and selling, a Fugazi cover album would be a great way to raise money for the event. All proceeds from sale of this cover album will be going to the benefit via this fundraising team.

The one catch is that the time frame is rather condensed: they want to have a list of all participants and the songs they are going to cover within the next two or three weeks. You will then have until August 4th to arrange, rehearse, dust off your 4 track, whatever, and get them an MP3 file of your final track. Sound exciting?
