valentine's day British Sea Power, The Rosebuds @ Cat's Cradle - 6 May 2008 (pics, live video/MP3s)

valentine's day Last night I headed back to the Cat's Cradle for a second time in three days to see two of my most favorite current bands - British Sea Power and EAR FARM BBQ pals The Rosebuds. The two are currently on tour together, so it was a bit of a homecoming for The Rosebuds and their fans were out in full force showing love and appreciation by way of dancing and high fives. The set was loose and friendly and fun, made up of old favorites and cover songs; however, they didn't play "My Punishment For Fighting" so I left the show throwing a tantrum*. What? It's only one of the very best songs released in 2007.

British Sea Power were received with a bit more hesitation and curious wonder, clearly still in the midst of building up a North Carolina fanbase. The audience reacted favorably to a few of the more popular songs from the band's recent record Do You Like Rock Music?, but didn't really wake up until the monstrous seventeen minute version of "Carrion" that closed the set. Words can not express my love for the music of British Sea Power - on record, live, in music videos, whatever; therefore, pictures, video, MP3s, and coverage of their two shows this weekend in NYC will have to suffice.

valentine's day British Sea Power: new album, live videos, massive US tour with The Rosebuds, Colourmusic, and 1900's

valentine's day What happens when two of EAR FARM's most favorite bands play two shows in NYC together over a single weekend in May? Up to this point, one could only imagine; however, we'll get a chance to see for ourselves when British Sea Power and The Rosebuds return to New York TOGETHER to hit up Bowery Ballroom and the Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 10th and 11th respectively.

The fun doesn't begin and end there: British Sea Power have a whole slew of US dates lined up for 2008 and will be dropping their third LP (titled Do You Like Rock Music?) tomorrow. Full tour dates, an MP3, live video, and links to where you can stream the entire album, after the jump.

valentine's day The Rosebuds @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg - 18 January 2008

valentine's day The Rosebuds played the Music Hall Of Williamsburg last Friday night in what was billed as a special "request show"; that is, they offered their fans the chance to request songs to be included in their setlist for both the show they played in Brooklyn AND their other show in the area at Maxwell's on Saturday. Sadly they didn't play their recently released version of "Push It" (posted below), but they did play just about every other song I could've hoped they would. Including personal favorites "Governor's Daughter" and "Hold On To This Coat". Live videos of both of these songs (plus two more live video clips and a few more pictures) can be found after the jump.

valentine's day Attending a Rosebuds show is a bit of a unique experience in a live concert market such as New York City. As was the case at the last Rosebuds show I went to, The Rosebuds and the audience combined to create an intimate, loose, and fun show full of energy, dancing, and sing-a-longs. It felt more like a large private party for friends of the band than your average Brooklyn rock show. Most probably because there was nothing average about the evening at all. Like the Man Man show from last January, this was a perfect way to kick off the '08 concert season.
