valentine's day Oregon Travels: British Route Sign Designs

valentine's day
British Route Sign Designs at Home Economics
As you know, I and the significants were up in Oregon during Spring Break in the town of Grants Pass, which is situated on the Rogue River. There was scant time to explore as much as I would have liked, especially the antique shops in town. What with kids, husband and hyperactive canines in tow, there was not a lot of opportunity.

More Home Economics
If I had, I would have found the very cool shop, Home Economics in the H Street Antiques Collective. And then I would have discovered British Route Sign Designs. DeWayne Lumpkin is the proprietor of this company that celebrates the graphic quality of vintage British transfer route bus signs, reproducing the designs onto fabrics. He offers fabric yardage, pillows, drapery panels, unique upholstered pieces, tabletop accessories and bed skirts.....and of course, the signs themselves!valentine's day

Lucky for me, I have a very savvy SIL who knows me all too well. She sent me an article from the Grants Pass Daily Courier showing DeWayne relaxing in one of his Wing Back chairs. Not two minutes later, I was emailing away to connect with DeWayne to ask more about his product line. A nicer guy, you would be hard pressed to find. He sent me some photos to share with you,

Already, the products can be found at gift shows and high end retail shops. You can find a list of retailers in your area HERE. But if you are ever in the neighborhood of Grants Pass, Oregon....be sure to stop in and say "hello"!
It is only a matter of time before the knock-offs artists will be snapping at the heels of British Route Sign Designs. DeWayne predicts "two strong years before this look is over".
But keep an eye peeled for this design maverick....he is already two bus stops ahead in planning his next project.

valentine's day Amanda Nisbet: What She's Up To

valentine's day valentine's day
Amanda Nisbet
The name conjures up images of fresh and colorful design, the perfect blend of tradition and modern edge, comfort and chic elegance.
valentine's day valentine's day
You know her from her frequent forays into the pages of the top shelter magazines: Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, House and Garden and Southern Accents.

valentine's day valentine's day
Many of you have been introduced through design blogs such as All the Best and La Dolce Vita (two of my personal favorites!!)

Recently, I had the opportunity to catch up with Amanda and ask her a little bit about what she is up to right now. And believe me when I say, she has been up to quite a lot!
valentine's day valentine's day
Here is some of our conversation:
How did you get your start?
I was a struggling actress and found myself getting more attention for the design of my apartment than for my acting talents so I transitioned from one creative role to another. I have to say my background as an actress comes in very handy as a decorator.

valentine's day valentine's day

What/who inspires you?
I am so lucky to live in New York where I’m constantly stimulated and inspired by the art fashion, architecture and all the creative people who make their mark on this city.

valentine's day valentine's day

How would you describe your own personal style?
Comfortable cozy, elegant and not too perfect. I like things to be a tad off balance and not too matchy and predictable. Formulaic decorating seems too “easy” for me I’d rather stretch myself and create more of a personal environment for my client.

Amanda has been working recently on a new line of chic fabrics and brilliant lighting.

Tell us a little about your new fabric line:

My new fabric line is essentially about the transformative powers of colour. I have 10 designs and 32 colours all hand-printed on either oyster linen, oatmeal linen or silk.

valentine's day valentine's day

What was the inspiration for this particular project/product?

Some of my patterns are very painterly and loose some are more precise and clean. Achieving exactly the right shade and tint for my colours was of paramount importance. I was really inspired more by what I felt I needed yet couldn’t find for my own client’ projects.

valentine's day valentine's day

What color are you and why?

Fuschia- its bright and happy gets along with everyone yet isn’t wimpy.

valentine's day valentine's day

What is on your nightstand?

An Aquiesse candle, my kindle, “”The Week” “Laughter On The Stairs” by Beverly Nichols and “the New Yorker”

Here is just a peek at Amanda's new fabric line. Fresh, classic, colorful. I can just imagine all of the possibilities!

Amanda's full fabric line can be viewed on her website HERE and is available though the Holland and Sherry Showrooms.

Amanda has also introduced a fantastic lighting line which you can also see on her site. It is available through The Urban Electric Company.

It was so much fun corresponding with Amanda Nisbet. She is one of my all time favorites, and I have to say everyone in her office is top notch as well. Thank you all very much for your gracious attention!

Last, but not least, I just wanted to mention that Amanda Nisbet is one of the judges for the Bedroom Design Contest being held over at Ronda Carmen's All the Best blog HERE. If you have not had a chance to check out all of the amazing entries, please hop on over! AND there is going to be a "Reader's Choice Award", so do stop by and vote!

valentine's day Design Crush: Bonesteel Trout Hall

Flipping through the latest Western Interiors and Design magazine, I came across a house from my old stomping grounds: Corona Del Mar, California. Designed by Heidi Bonesteel and her partner Michele Trout of Bonesteel Trout Hall, it is such a fun space, I had to share. It is a beachy, sunny space, something I am missing right about now while trying to endure the constant rain we have been seeing in Northern California. I hope this brightens your day!

valentine's day valentine's day

Vintage poster by Belgian artist Albert Detry sets a beach front tone. Vintage lamp from Dana John. Credenza from Mecox Gardens. Love, love, love this combination.

valentine's day valentine's day

Slipcover in Victorian Hagan linen. Coffee table from Mecox Gardens. Pillow fabrics from Fortuny and Raoul Textiles. The designers used coral to punch it up and make it more youthful" for the young woman who has just graduated from college. (Pretty nice digs for a recent college grad I'd say!!) The blue and white china lamps, the matchstick blinds. Sigh...I want them all.valentine's day valentine's day

Sutherland Bamboo Chair with fabric from John Robshaw Textiles. Clate Grunden light fixture in Dining Room. Bielecky Brothers Dining Chairs. Hard to imagine this room is not in the Caribbean somewhere. The light fixture is amazing, and I think we all could use a little John Robshaw in our lives.

valentine's day valentine's day

Now that I've seen this bathroom, can I live without this Clarence House Fabric? The designers have backed it with paper to cover the powder room walls. Matched with the shell encrusted mirror.....more than charming!

valentine's day valentine's day

Raoul Textiles fabric covers the headboard. Ankasa palm leaf pillow. Walter's Wicker nightstand. And this is the Guest Room. I think I could manage a long stay in this room.valentine's day valentine's day

This is a close up view of the 1920 wallpaper panels from Chapman Radcliff Home that the designers used to flank the Master Bed. Nicely done tablescape with the silver bowl with blue interior, blue stones in the rose vase.

valentine's day valentine's day

This is a bigger view of the Master Bedroom. The article refers to the bed as "bamboo", but I am pretty certain it is from Oly Studio, as are the zebra benches at the end of the bed. I can never get enough of beautiful, classic white bedding.

This is the sitting area of the Master Bedroom: loving the Moroccan table here.

Heidi Bonesteel and Michele Trout have joined forces to become the new owners of the company formerly known as Hannah Gordon Design. They have offices in Pacific Palisades and Newport Beach for those of you in SoCal. If you haven't yet followed the link on over to the Bonesteel Trout Hall website, you might want to take a looksee. Lots more projects to see.

And I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Western Interiors & Design magazine for being so GENEROUS with all of the very easy to find sourcing throughout their editorial. Some magazines ( no names, but you know who you are) are not quite so forthcoming. As a designer, I am always on the lookout for great sources. So I, for one, have great appreciation for your efforts to include the info.
