Watching the music video for Morrissey's most recent single ("All You Need Is Me"), it occurred to me that something felt oh so very familiar about it... the outstretched arms? The tambourine? Mozzer surrounded by boys? Yes those, okay, sure. But more than that, it's the walk. Morrissey singing and walking towards the camera: the most basic of Morrissey music video tactics. How many other videos of his can you name that feature this overplayed action-infusing device?? I came up with a total of eight...

Fantastic Plastic artist Bearsuit has a new record that was just recently released. In researching the release, and looking for some official free MP3s from it, I decided to check out the record label's site. This, in turn, led me to their music/video page. Where, coincidentally, they don't offer any free MP3s of their artists - do any British labels offer free music?? Idiots. Anyway, it was at this point that I realized that Fantastic Plastic does actually offer a fine collection of music videos from their artists. valentine's day Dead Confederate 2008 tour dates, EXCLUSIVE video of their SXSW show with R.E.M.

valentine's day Dead Confederate opened for R.E.M. at Stubb's Bar-B-Q on the first day of SXSW and EAR FARM was lucky enough to spend the entire day with the band. We got all kinds of exclusive video as a result, including hanging out backstage with Michael Stipe and their entire kick-ass set from that night. What follows is a snippet of documentary footage of the band being interviewed before the show as well as their final song from their set at Stubb's, "Tortured Artist Saint". In addition to this video footage, we're very excited to share with you some 2008 tour dates for the band - that's right, Dead Confederate is coming to your neck of the woods very soon and they're going to blow you away. Dead Confederate have lined up a summer tour that begins on the 23rd of May with a KEXP session in Seattle. The rest of the dates are listed below, including seven West Coast stops with Drive by Truckers and performances at the Bonnaroo, Sasquatch!, and Rothbury festivals.

The band spent January and February in Austin, TX recording a full length follow-up to their acclaimed debut EP. The album was produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), and includes many of the tracks they played at the amazing shows we saw them play in Austin. Frankly, we can't wait for the album.

Be on the lookout for more EXCLUSIVE video from our time with Dead Confederate at SXSW in the future. And if I might offer a viewing suggestion, watch the QuickTime that's posted below instead of that ugly YouTube stuff.

valentine's day I Want My MTV - Pitchfork.tv and Videogum

Alright. So it seems Pitchfork and Stereogum want their MTV too... already this week, both sites have unveiled brand new sister sites (Pitchfork.tv and Videogum respectively) that are solely concerned with video, rather than audio-related content. While Pitchfork.tv seems happy to fill the void left by MTV (ever since 1992/the end of the music video era) by showcasing all manner of music related programming; Videogum seems content to dish out pop culture obsessed TV-lite posts relating to anything and everything that will draw visitors. Frankly, I'm extremely pleased with Pitchfork.tv. Loads of original content, decent quality encoding on the videos, some embeddable stuff, easy to use interface - I give this early version of the site an 8.2 on the Pitchfork scale. A surprisingly solid debut with room for improvement. And shoot, that Radiohead exclusive makes the trip over to Pfork.tv worthwhile on its own. As for Videogum... uh, well... there's uh... I liked it better the first time when it was called Best Week Ever? Yeah. I think. Wait, I don't actually have any idea what the 'gum is going for over there. Do you? Do they?

I suggest skipping Videogum for now. Instead, head on over to Pitchfork.tv. Below are a few choice videos I found over there if you need convincing.

Last Friday I told you all about how much I enjoy the new Madonna single "4 Minutes", this week we've got the music video for said song. After all, what would a Madonna single be without an accompanying video, right? Well... for me, this is the first Madonna single that really suffers as a result of the music video. valentine's day New Evangelicals Video: "Midnight Vignette"

This little doozy of a video fits in perfectly with our forced attempts all week at providing film-related music content in celebration of Sunday's Oscars.

It's inspiration is pretty clearly derived from the song's title (and the whole vibe of The Evening Descends for that matter): a spooky, grainy, midnight B-movie. Directed by Matt Leach. Enjoy!
