valentine's day Will You Marry Me? cupcakes plus bride and groom

These fittingly paired cupcakes, though separate orders, were made by Toronto, Canada's custom cupcake and dessert company The Chubby Bunny and are via their Facebook page. They can be reached at hello at thechubbybunny.ca. I'm a sucker for engagement cupcakes. What about you?

valentine's day Toronto's Most Beautiful Cupcakes valentine's day

Probably best viewed large, so feel free to click through.

From Renee Suen:

"The relaunch of TorontoLife.com's Food Porn column starts with a post about the city's most beautiful cupcakes. This topic was one suggested by my editor. Despite my initial hesitations (really? cupcakes? That's so 2005!), we did have a twist on it: finding the best looking (tasting would obviously be as important). I'll confess that at the end of the day, I did look forward to see how creative some of the artisans/bakers were.

With regards to the selection process, all candidates were my pitches based on familiarity or by reputation. I was really surprised by how amazing some looked; others by their taste. A week of cupcake tasting testing (with a motley crew of cupcake lovers - and most importantly for me, ones who could actually eat cocoa laced products on my behalf) wasn't something I looked forward to (given that I'm more a savouries person than one for sweets), but I was quite happy to discover some favourites along with being wowed by the details infused in others.

On a wild note, one of my members claims she developed an allergy to cupcakes (likely to ingredients found within it but I think has been fine with eating those same ingredients elsewhere) including anaphylaxis. Perhaps she's experiencing the same allergy development as I did to cocoa? Only time will tell (and for her sake, I hope not!).

I bring you Toronto's most beautiful cupcakes curated as of Nov 2010. These are a representative selection from the following cupcake vendors: SweetThings, OMG Baked Goodness, Wicked Little Cake Company, She Takes the Cake, Whole Foods, SweetThings, Eini & Co, The Cupcakery, LPK Culinary Groove."

valentine's day We heart Bakerella and Cake Pops

I've had a tumultuous day, and will be posting more about our small but delightful meetup and Bakerella soon. My iPhone got stolen at Grand Central today - totally my fault for plugging it in a few tables away from where we were sitting and not watching it like a hawk; one minute it was there, the next minute someone had stolen it. It's an excuse to upgrade to a G4. But I want to post about Bakerella! She had by my estimation over 200 people at Williams-Sonoma for her Cake Pops signing.

I was running late so wasn't there at the start where she gave this very blog a shoutout and told me she was inspired to make the cupcake cake pops so that we'd post them. Well, we love Bakerella and are thrilled that her cake pops and cookbook have taken off in a huge way.

Williams-Sonoma sprayed chocolate-covered cake balls (golden cake and red velvet) with gold and silver. I ate a golden one, and it was delicious!

Make sure to visit Bakerella.com and Toronto residents are lucky because she just added another signing date!

I'll post more about the meetup later; if you're in NYC, join our meetup group and make sure you RSVP for our December 7th 6th anniversary blowout party (to RSVP for the Seattle Cupcakes Take the Cake 6th Anniversary party, organized by Betsy Eves of Java Cupcake and Cupcakes Take the Cake, visit cttcbirthdaybashwa.com).
