valentine's day Happy Birthday Mama Jetplane

Happy 50th Birthday to the BEST mom in the whole wide world....yes I may be a little biased but OH WELL... She is wonderful.
She was a young, single mother with 2 kids and a nasty ex-husband that refused to pay child support. She is a devout Catholic, breast cancer survivor who loves to cook, garden, and lay out in her pool with a wine cooler (yes my mom loves her a wine cooler). She is a hell of a lady that prefers to wear heels and jewelry no matter where she is going. That's my mom and I love her....even though she refused to accept I had straight hair and made me get perms...in the kitchen sink.

Happy Birthday Mom! valentine's day

Thank you for putting up with me during my teenage years, I was quite a handful.

Thank you for taking me to the New Kids on the Block when you had the flu.

Thank you for showing me how much love can come from a single mom.

Thank you for allowing us to attend private school, dance lessons, play sports, etc. on 1 income.

Thank you for paying for my college education.
Thank you for making the best Halloween costumes.

Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on when I felt the world around me falling down.
Thank you for attending every one of my dance recitals, contests, and pageants.

Thank you for reminding me to not let stupid boys get me down.

Thank you for showing me what a strong woman is.

Thank you for teaching me how to cook.
Thank you for driving to Indianapolis with me to pick out my first apartment and loaning me furniture to fill it with.
Thank you for showing me how one can go through so much and still remain positive.
Thank you for every single thing you have ever done for me and my lil brother.
Thank you for being our mother.

valentine's day
Love you.

valentine's day Status of the Jetplanes Real Estate Empire...

If you read this blog, you will know that the Jetplanes are moving to Idaho and we put an offer in that was accepted on a house. We had the standard inspection done on Tuesday and there were only minimal issues, the house was built in the late 80s, so we anticipated some small details.

The house has a wooden shingled roof, a roof that we had never seen before, so we had a roof inspector come out and do an inspection. It was only $50. A general inspector will not provide you a detailed roof inspection, so we chose to pay for an additional inspection. Well it turns out this inspector actually did an inspection on this roof for the home owners last year and replaced several of the shingles. He gives the roof a 5 years or more (with maintenance) rating. Well, that is not good enough for us.

So needless to say, we've submitted another amended offer on the house last night. This might be a deal breaker if we can't come to some compromise. We've been up front and honest with our agent telling her we have concerns about the roof. I think our agent thinks we're crazy or delusional or something. It feels like she thinks we're too demanding or expecting too much. That's fine, but we're not buying a house that will need a new roof in 5 years, that my friend just ain't happening...unless you show us some money...

Oh and THANK YOU all so much for the birthday wishes, I really appreciate it. And on a total side note...guess who got carded while ordering a drink at dinner last night...this lady!!!

UPDATE: The seller has agreed to put on a whole new roof. Ask and you shall receive... we are SHOCKED and so HAPPY!!!

valentine's day Peace out 20s....

Today I am 30 years old...I am no longer in my 20s, nor my late 20s...I am 30. I'm not going to provide you with this in depth introspective post about what turning 30 means to me or anything but I will say this...I'm freaked out about it.

So in honor of this stupendous occasion I'm going to provide you with 30 random and perhaps totally insignificant facts about myself.

1. I won't drink 'white' milk.

2. I used to be really into NASCAR, but to my defense I worked for a company that sponsored one and I called on Home Improvement stores...hello I needed to know about NASCAR.

3. Milo was 'this close' to be named Bogart.

4. In high school, I was into punk rock and ska music....I may still have ALL that music.

5. I am a AGD.

6. I have a ridiculously small pinky toe, with an even smaller toe nail on it.

7. My childhood nickname is Pooh Bear.

8. I still haven't legally changed by name....yeah I'm really bad.

9. I was on the quiz bowl team in junior high and high school, and I freaking loved it. I also was captain for our sorority team in Greek Week.

10. I took tap, jazz, ballet, and toe shoe ballet. Obviously, being 5'2" a ballerina was not in my future.

11. My mother let me name my lil brother or at least she let me think I did....after my favorite television show in 1984 - Heart to Heart.

12. I have OCD when it comes to closing the garage. I will turn around and come home to make sure I closed it, I do it ALL the time.

13. I used to have a thick southern accent when I was 4-5yrs old. When my parents were still married we lived in Natchez and Baton Rouge for about a year or so.

14. In 1st grade I went to a speech therapist and she got rid of the accent.

15. My favorite book I think will always be Dante's Inferno. I read it for Honors English senior year. For our class gift to our teacher, we made a plaque for above his door that read, "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here"

16. I have a deep love for techno music....thanks to college.

17. Mr. Jetplane and I often call each other by our last names.

18. Freshman year of college, I dated 2 guys and they knew about each other - One at home and one at school.

19. My favorite color is any shade of blue.

20. I know almost every word to Pretty in Pink, 16 Candles, and the Breakfast Club. John Hughes was God!!!

21. I also may have watched Howard the Duck every single weekend with my lil brother, on a VCR we rented with our videos.

22. My brother and I used to set up Double Dare challenges in our backyard.

23. I am messy. I hate to clean.

24. Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda.

25. Up until the 8th grade, my mother made me get perms. She used to give them to me in the kitchen sink...I used to say to her...give up I have straight hair.

26. I participated in beauty pageants, and I won some. My talent was tap.

27. I haven't spoken to my biological father since I was 20, and that was just by mistake when I answered the phone and he wanted to speak to my brother.

28. I curse alot.

29. I love Party Pizzas....like LOVE them.

30. My favorite smell in the world, honeysuckle.... It takes me right back to being a kid, playing with my cousins in my grandmother's backyard.

So there you go....30 totally random things about this 30 year old lady. Oh and one last thing...

valentine's day Notice Something Different About Me?

Yes this lil blog has gotten quite a face lift, its still a work in progress...so please bear with me if not all the links are working properly. I'll talk more about the 'new look' later this week...

On a much different note....We got back from Vegas last night, many stories to tell about loathing American Airlines, loving Chelsea Handler, and meeting a great fellow blogger.

Let's us say one fellow blogger got to meet the Jetplanes in all our drunk glory. Oh yeah! Hot mess alert...

Oh and on even bigger news...TODAY is the last day of my 20s....we pause for a moment of silence...

valentine's day Happy Birthday Lil Bro

valentine's day Happy Birthday Mama Jetplane

valentine's day valentine's day
Today is my mom's 49th birthday! Yes, I have a young mom and a fabulous one at that. She is a wonderful woman that is not only a cancer survivor but a survivor in general.

In 1979 at the ripe ol age of 19 she became pregnant with me. She married my father on NYE in the Catholic Church in 1979. And lil ol me came out in June 1980 followed by my lil brother in May 1984. Unfortunately, my parents marriage was not the happiest and my father wasn't the best father or husband for that matter. They were separated and we moved back to live with my grandparents in Illinois around November 1985. I remember the timeframe only because I started a new kindergarten and there were Thanksgiving decorations up in my classroom.
My mother was 25 years old, married, divorced, with 2 kids, and no job. She's a fighter, a go getter, and the strongest woman I've ever known (besides my grandma).

She fought tooth and nail to work and provide for us as best she could and luckily we had the love and support of my grandparents who allowed us to live in their old house rent free (which was next door to my great-grandparents).
She met my stepfather while I was in 5th grade and married him when I was going into 8th. We moved to his house and his hometown when I started high school, which caused ALOT of drama. But she tried to help me through it as best she could. My grandmother, also had breast cancer, passed away while I was in high school and my mother's world was changed forever. She was only girl and youngest in a family of 4 kids and she was now to be the glue that would hold her family together.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in Sept 2008 but thankfully she is now cancer free. She is preparing for her upcoming reconstructive surgery this fall.

She is the best mother in the whole world and I'm so honored to call her my Mom.

Happy 49th Birthday Mom!

Love you and miss you...

valentine's day Happy Birthday to Ya, Mr. Jetplane!

Today my best friend turns 29 years old. Happy Birthday sweetheart! I love you more today than yesterday. valentine's day valentine's day Who would have thought about 5 years ago, we would have met, become great friends, and fall in love. You are the funniest, most sarcastic, yet sweetest guy I've ever known.

valentine's day valentine's day Happy 29th Mr. Jetplane. Now I'm not the 'old lady' in the house any more....

valentine's day valentine's day
And just for fun.... Here's a vintage pic of Mr. Jetplane. Wasn't he a cutie.

FYI- That Elvis costume was mine. I wore it to a Halloween party and he wore the next day to work. This was pre-Air Force Jetplanes, when he managed a bank.
And... how are you all loving the new look? Thank you Krizzy Designs!!!

valentine's day Now Seating for Pity Party of One

First things first, THANK YOU all so much for all your kinds words and Birthday Wishes yesterday, it meant the world to me. You all are fabulous and I adore you...air kisses to you all.

Now I will provide a disclaimer: Mrs. Jetplane is not, I repeat, is not, HIGH MAINTENANCE and generally I set my expectations rather low so I won't be disappointed. But I was rather disappointed with my birthday this year, and I'll be honest, the last great birthday I had was turning 21.

Mr. Jetplane is not a romantic. He is not a planner. He is not mushy, sentimental, or emotional. I, on the other hand, am all of those, generally speaking.

My birthday started out ok. He sang happy birthday to me in the morning and brought me chocolate milk and my morning vitamins and met me for lunch. He had to drop Charlie off at the vet (more to come on that). We had a nice lunch and I dropped hints about flowers and a card.

**Now let me say this... I am a card person. I believe you should always get a card and put something meaningful in it, especially on birthdays and anniversaries. You tell the person how you feel about them and how much they mean to you. I want (nor almost demand) a card for special occasions and I want him to write something meaningful in it. This is a non-negotiable point.

4:30 rolls around and he calls to tell me that we're not going to be able to pick up Charlie until 6:30 and she notices that he has fluid in his lungs and a slightly enlarged heart. Okay, so I go into total freak out mode and start researching what all of this means to our baby Charlie and I start losing my sh!t. Cancel dinner, I'm not interested, I just want to get home and go pick up our big ol dog.

I get home and we decide that we'll just stop in at Applebees since its near the Vet. OMG, we used to go to this location all the time and hadn't been there in some time.

The service was horrible and our food was totally inedible. I looked like it sat under a hot lamp for 10 minutes, which would make sense since everyone around us got their food first.

She came back to the table to ask how it was I just simply asked "Well look at it! You tell me." "Oh sorry we have a new heat lamp." I kindly remarked... My meat is not chewable and is cold, the vegetables are steamy hot and not even what I ordered and all I can eat is the baked potato. His rice is literally brown and the chicken is stuck to the plate. We can't eat this and we're late and don't have time to wait another 25 minutes for our food." Manager came and covered our ticket and apologize. Oh well Applesbees... I'll take my business elsewhere...

Moving on down the road of birthday fun... Get to the vet. Charlie does have a slightly enlarged heart on the right side. He doesn't have a murmur and has no other symptoms associated with enlarged hearts. A normal heart for a dog his size is something like 10.2 and he is 10.7. Also he has fluid in his lungs. We are going to work on the fluid issue for the next 2 weeks and then see about the heart.

What led to all of this... Well around 2am - 5am he sometimes sounds like he is going to throw up so we rush him outside and he'll spit up some water. This used to happen maybe once everyone 3-4 months. Its happened almost everyday for the past 2 weeks. Then yesterday morning he didn't want to eat his food. OKAY... something wrong.. to the vet you go.

So our big baby was all drugged up when we picked him up at the vet and just looked so sad. We let him lay on the couch, generally a no no, but when he's sick all rules are made to be broken.

valentine's day

So back to the BDAY - ummm my hubby got me NO CARD and NO FLOWERS. He said that he didn't have time to do it with Charlie's issues. But between the time he dropped Charlie off at noon until we picked him up at 6:30 he had time to

1. Take a nap
2. Sweep the floors
3. Go swim laps
4. And hang out with the neighbor rebuilding his motorcycle
5. Shower
6. Get dressed
7. And hang out with the neighbor rebuilding his motorcycle

Yeah!!! I'm pissed.

1. He knows my deal with cards, he felt that rath several years ago
2. He always gets me flowers

He then told me that he has all these things planned for this weekend since its our anniversary and this weekend was like a co-event. (Guess I was just suppose to assume that, since you didn't say anything, and led me to believe that you had something planned for my bday.)

Okay, I can deal with that but GET ME A CARD! MAKE ME A CARD. WRITE ME A FREAKING NOTE ON THE BACK OF A RECEIPT.

So we'll see how this weekend is, because right now, Mr. Jetplane is treading on some thin ice with me.

But THANK YOU for dealing with my bitter, sad lil tweets last night. Much love to you all.. XOXO

valentine's day Its Official.... 365 days I will be 30

Today I am 29 years old. I don't feel 29 and I sure as hell don't look 29, but I am. Wow! I think this birthday is the first one that I've felt a little weird about.

valentine's day valentine's day Picture from honeymoon in the DR after too many glasses of cheap champagne.
Thank you for all the early birthday wishes, I appreciate each and every one. I got a text message from girl friend this morning at 6:30am, and Mr. Jetplane was like.... "OMG your friends send you 'Happy Bday' messages at 6:30am?"
I'm not sure what (if anything) is in store for my birthday. Mr. Jetplane and I haven't been able to celebrate it together in 3 years. We've always been apart for it. So hopefully he planned...something... I adore my hubby but he is not romantic or a planner, he's a fly by the seat of his pants type of guy. So I'll let you know.

But we are headed to Biloxi this weekend to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.... It should be an exciting week.
