The site Sweetopia has an extensive tutorial posted about how to make these key to your heart cupcakes using gold leaf! There are tweezers (!!) and paintbrushes involved. I love how much effort went into these - it shows. They are beautiful and would make a gorgeous valentine's day cupcake gift. Do check it out. This is like a mashup of today's Super Bowl teams, the Packers and the Steelers, plus valentine's day and gingerbread latte cupcakes for no other reason than I thought they looked gorgeous. And Samoa Girl Scout cookies because I know Girl Scout cookies are always a hit with our readers (as, I imagine Girl Scout cookies are all on their own, but combining them with cupcakes and...bingo!). valentine's day Jackie Gordon(@divathatateny) invited me to attend an event hosted by Driscoll's Berries. In celebration of valentine's day , guests of the event were treat to a demo of how to make 3-D, heart-shaped cupcakes garnished with raspberries and blackberries. Make sure you have Wilton Dimension's Mini Heart Pans.

I've always wanted to try the mail-order cupcakes from Williams-Sonoma, made by Perfect Endings, but the price tag was a bit cost prohibitive. So when Williams-Sonoma offered to mail me a free box, I jumped at the chance.
I was wondering how the company would manage shipping and if the cupcakes would be tasty after their big trip.

They arrived packed in what looked like a Styrofoam cooler, with a card of defrosting directions on top. I wasn't thrilled with the cooler, but I decided to reuse and recycle it.

And dry ice! I love dry ice. (N.B. Don't touch with bare hands.)

The cupcakes looked frozen but in great shape.

And here they are without the plastic wrap:

There were three each of the three flavors: Chocolate-chocolate, vanilla-vanilla, and red velvet.
The vanilla was very good, with a moist dense cake and a sweet creamy frosting.

The company recommends letting the cupcake come to room temperature first, which I should have done, because it is much much better at room temp.

Also, I tossed the fondant (?) heart on top, and you should too, it's awful. Pretty to look at though!
The red velvet was not very red, which I appreciated, as it didn't have the typical chemical taste that red velvets can have.

You know, I have no idea if the frosting was cream cheese based, but it didn't taste like it. The cake was cocoa-y and again, moist and dense.
The chocolate-chocolate surprised me, because I really liked it! I am not a huge chocolate fan, but this cupcake was yummy. With several large glasses of ice-cold milk I would have been in hog heaven. The frosting was rich and gooey and creamy and dense. Everything you might want in a chocolate frosting.

Again, toss the fondant decoration. I wasn't a huge fan of the waxy sprinkles, but they did add a bit of texture to the super-creamy frosting.

The cupcakes were pricey at approximately 50 dollars plus shipping, but if you couldn't bake any yourself, and don't have any bakeries nearby, you could proudly serve these as a valentine's day treat. And a lovely gift delivery to a sweetie. We get a lot of queries about shipping cupcakes and companies that do it, and Williams-Sonoma's Perfect Endings cupcakes shipped perfectly.
The cupcakes keep in the fridge for about 3 days, or 2 months in the freezer.

These cupcakes are by Rockland County, New York's Mom and pops, who are also on Facebook, via their Flickr account. Now, I'm pro-valentine's day , and I would imagine it's one of the biggest, if not the biggest sales day for cupcake bakeries (can any of you cupcake sellers chime in on that?) but you have to appreciate the spirit of these anti-valentine's day cupcakes as well.

The store, which also sells coffee and other baked goods, is looking for new locations on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side; in Chelsea around 21st Street and Sixth Avenue; in the West Village; and around Lincoln Center. A Times Square store is already in the oven.
Crumbs also plans to spread more to the outer boroughs, including Park Slope and Forest Hill in Queens. The store is looking for spaces between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet that have good foot traffic. Crumbs, founded in 2003, also recently announced it will go public through a $66 million merger with an investment company. As the country's largest cupcake chain, it currently operates 16 stores in New York City alone.
