valentine's day Eat Pray Love

valentine's day valentine's day
I read the book about 2+ years ago...why? Honestly, because Oprah told me to. She told me it was enlightening and life changing.
I don't know if it was because I was preparing for my wedding or because I was a child of divorce or if I had too high of expectations of of this book....but I just wasn't a fan. I wasn't a fan of Liz Gilbert. I felt she whined too much, gave up too easily, and just took herself way too seriously. But hey, those are my own opinions.

I went to see the movie on Saturday afternoon with a girlfriend, our husbands went and watched The Expendables. I went to the movie because, surprisingly the previews look better than the book and Ms. Julia Roberts can sell me an igloo in Alaska.

Did I like the movie, well I liked it better than the book. What were your thoughts?

FYI - Her real 2nd husband looks nothing like this... valentine's day

and that really pissed me off...

valentine's day Bit of This & Bit of That

This post is going to be all over the place, so apologies all around...

1. Ummmm, how freaking good was Mad Men on Sunday? I'm so happy its back. I adore how Peggy has come into her own, Joan has her own office, and Betty is dealing with a b!tch of a MIL. (didn't have that with Don since he had no family) Even though Don is now dealing with the consequences of his actions, you still like him, you still want him to come out on the other side...which I totally believe he will. Don Draper is a Big F'in Deal people.

2. Now True Blood - Its picking and choosing parts of the books it wants to follow. I believe in Alan Ball and all but seriously - why wouldn't Bill heal after being cut? I hate Cooter, but love how trashy Debbie Pelt is. Talbot is wonderful and Franklin is a total freakshow. And this dog fighting ring....YAWN. Ummm hello - only 1st born can be a WERE, duh! And let's get to saving Pam, she's awesome!

3. The state of our current house - CRAZY. We're walking on backer board over here... We ripped up all the flooring ourselves in the living room, hallway, kitchen, entry way, family room and stairs to the loft. Yummy dark hardwood is going in its place. Tearing it up ourselves saved us almost $1,000. We are planning on putting down the plywood ourselves too, which saves another $1,000+. I'm excited for the new floors, but not excited for the bill or having to work through all the noise its going to cause when they install.

4. My garden is growing and I have harvested several summer squash, 1 spaghetti squash, and 1 tomato.

5. We saw Inception at IMAX the weekend it came out. Amaze-balls. Seriously.

6. I have learned that there are more VW bugs in Idaho then anywhere I have ever been. Mr and I are constantly hitting each other "Slugbug no slug backs".

We went on a walk around the hood yesterday evening - 4 of them. How is that even possible?
By the way - we ONLY do it for VW Bugs.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

valentine's day The Ridiculousness of my Marriage

Is that we get into full on arguments about the dumbest things. I mean REAL dumb sh!t. We'll argue about whether the actor in a movie was in another movie or television show. We'll argue about whether or not we have chicken nuggets in the freezer. We're argue about where we we're going to eat dinner.

You see these aren't life or death issues here... well to be honest we got into a HUGE fight right after Hurricane Katrina and we were driving to a wedding in St Louis from Indianapolis. Let's just say that I didn't speak to him for almost the entire drive. But other than that, we agree on most 'big things' and create WW3 on seriously stupid crap.

So what's our LATEST fight.... valentine's day This sh!t....I thought for sure we'd be on the same side of this issue, but sadly we are not. I'm uber pissed off that Will Smith has a big enough head to think that he and his young son can remake a CLASSIC. I find it appalling and will not give them ANY of my $. Mr. thinks they might be able to remake it and it be good. Oh and he insists on seeing it...insists!

I find that incredibly hard to believe...Jackie Chan people....Jackie Chan is no Mr. Miyagi and Jaden Smith is no Daniel Son.

I mean this is a classic don't mess with a classic.... FYI - this song played on our pre-wedding video shown at the rehearsal dinner for Mr. Jetplane's section of pictures. That's how much this man loves some Karate Kid...

valentine's day What's in a name...

Well, Mr. Jetplane got his call sign on Friday. This 'call sign' most likely will not stick. Call signs don't stick until you get into an operational squadron, and once your call sign sticks, well your call sign becomes your name...

I'm not kidding, wives call their husbands by their call signs, its weird when you get emails and they said, "Just let me or Ringo know what you prefer!"

So what's Mr's call sign...

Its MOG! He's his own best friend, which is actually perfect...BTW. Some might say my lovely hubby (like other fighter guys) tend to like themselves...alittle bit.

But why MOG?? Well if some of you have followed the Jetplanes awhile (or read my Twitter) you'd know that Mr. Jetplane has had some issues with air sickness in the jet. The John Candy character in Spaceballs (which I hope you all new that the clip of above was from Spaceballs, because if you don't...well we won't even go there) is named Barf, and since Barf is too obvious and been done before, they are calling him MOG.

Yes my hubby, MOG...

He's flying nights again this week and its painful for everyone involved.

Here's to a week of low drama and plenty of sleep...

valentine's day Warning TwiHards...this AIN'T Edward Cullen

valentine's day valentine's day
Since Mr. Jetplane is out of town at a family funeral, I had a girls night full of sushi, military wife talk, movies, and drinks (cherry vodka and sugar fee red bull to be exact)*

Sushi was good, service at restaurant SUCKED (but it always does at this place), talk was great since I got to meet 2 other mil wives that I hadn't met before, and the movie was great.

valentine's day

I had given the girls fair warning that the movie was going to be sad, I told them what I had 'heard and read' about the film and to bring tissues, we will need them. I'm not going to give anything away because some people might not know what its about, but if you watch the 1st minute of it, pay attention to the date, location, and background...you should be able to figure it out.

The movie is about 2 young people living in NYC and dealing with an immense amount of tragedy in their lives. They find each other in a strange turn of events and fall madly in love.

Pierce Brosnan is wonderful in the movie, he plays an absent father who appears to not want to be involved in his children's lives...he and his son (Rob P) don't see eye to eye on a single thing.

Rob P is wonderful in this movie...he's a chain smoking, confused, slightly disturbed young man trying to figure out his life and his emotions after dealing with a tragic loss in his life. But fair warning to you (and all the young kids that were in this movie)...THIS IS NOT TWILIGHT! This is a DARK movie and as a 12 year old girl...this movie IS NOT FOR YOU. Parents don't bring your kids to this movie, we saw groups of young..and I do mean young girls leaving the movie bawling their eyes out.

There is sex, drinking, lots of smoking, bad language, and violence in this movie.... um your 10 yr old daughter shouldn't be at this, I don't care how much she loves Edward...this is not TWILIGHT.

But the movie was great, intense but great, I highly recommend it. But be prepared, you will cry. If I didn't know beforehand what was going to happen (at some point in the film) I might have been bawling along with the 12 years old... Because I got into the ugly cry...

Anyone else seen it...thoughts???

*If a waitress at a bar knows what you want to drink before you order it, does that mean you go there too much or you drink too much or you order weird drinks so they remember you...

valentine's day RIP Corey Haim

I was shocked when I read this on Twitter this morning... I had Tiger Beat posters of Corey Haim all over my bedroom closet door, I was never a Corey Feldman type of girl. He shared the door with Christian Slater, Johnny Depp, and River Phoenix... oh if River Phoenix would have lived...just think about the roles he would have played...tear..tear..

I'm so sad that his life ended in such a tragic way. I know his drug abuse and addiction issues have been well documented. And I admit I did watch "The 2 Coreys" on A&E, but I had hoped he'd be able to turn it out.

In my eyes he'll always be Les Anderson from License to Drive.

valentine's day Current Obsession

I find this song amazing....and it is probably 50% of the reason I'm going to see Dear John. I read (actually listened to book on CD) driving between Illinois and Florida sometime the last couple of years. I loved the book and I bawled like a baby at the ending. Now that I think about the fact that Mr. Jetplane will be deploying within the next year or so, it means so much more.

Anyone else out there going to see Dear John? Do you think it will be as good as the book?

valentine's day The Trick to Getting Mr. jetplane to watch Chick Flicks...

Make sure there are boobs in them...ideally her boobs... valentine's day I've actually got him to watch this movie twice!! Yeah I know...
valentine's day
We rented it once and then watched it on HBO the other night.

I think there is some underlining guy talk that he enjoyed, but looking at very attractive women kept him engaged in the movie somewhat.

To be completely honest, I do at times get him to go to a movie with me from time to time, solely based on how attractive the star and if there will be boob shots...

I know I can't be the only one...

valentine's day Soundtrack to my day

Well Happy Eve of Christmas Eve to all you lovely readers of mine..if I still have some, since I've been quite the crappy lil blogger lately.

I do apologize, the Jetplanes' lives have been a little crazy lately and my workload, well...my cup runneth over to the nth degree.

So what to blog about today on a day such a this...well music of course. I love music and have a pretty eclectic taste. But this song evens me out and I go into a very relaxed mode...hoping it will do the same to you.

I believe the 1st time I heard it was on 500 Days of Summer but I'm not sure. (FYI-Really liked that movie)

But then last night I heard it again on a Rhapsody commercial when the guy said "This reminds me of the song"...and it really did.

I love how music can change your mood, take you back in time, or just get your party started.

So for the lackluster posts lately, I promise I'll get better.

Enjoy this lil diddy for your morning jump start!!

valentine's day The Jetplanes are all about Compromise

The Jetplanes have had several heated discussions on something that is very near and dear to us...

MOVIES!!!

When a new movie comes out the Jetplanes hunkered down on their sides and start to make deals about what movie they will see...

Both sides have conferred with our own independent counsels and have came to a nice compromise...

I am willing to watch this - (only in 3D)
valentine's day
if he will go with me to watch THIS!!

valentine's day

Lord help us when we have to pick baby names (which isn't happening right now)...

valentine's day Random Weekend Ramblings

1. Friday we attended a Brief at the Squadron to discuss what will be our lives after Mr. Jetplane completes flight school. We can stay here, go to England, or go to Idaho. We learned pro's and con's to all of the bases - QOL (Quality of Life), Geography, Flying, Deployment cycle, etc. Mr. Jetplane will get to rank his choices - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. His grades and the needs of the AF will make the decision. We'll know next spring where we are off to and then we'll decide if we're ready to start trying to have a baby or not.

2. Here are some samples of paint colors we've selected for the kitchen. I have paint swatches on a couple spots in the kitchen. I'll post one next to the kitchen cabinets later this week. I prefer the middle. The colors are Limeade, California Roll, and Green Apple.

valentine's day 3. This weekend we took the dogs to the vet to get their shots, got lost in the middle of nowhere because my GPS doesn't even know where we are when we're at our house (since we live in BFE)...just to find out that Mr. (my navigator in life and in the jet) took us the most round about way. We showed up 20 minutes late...FYI its only 7 miles away from the house.

4. We went and saw Couples Retreat on Saturday. It was funny...it wasn't OMG I'm going to throw up because I can't stop laughing funny...but it was funny. Now that we're married you start to think about things differently so the movie touched a cord with us. And we'll always go to Applebee's together... (topic from movie)

5. Out to the movie I sported my new Warriors In Pink scarf I blogged about early this month. *I might be giving one away on this lil blog later this week*valentine's day 6. The Jetplanes took their first time to Sam's Club together this weekend. We bought Gatorade, Garlic Bread, Lunch Meat, Hand Soap, Protein Drinks (Mr.), Granola Bars, Fruit, etc. On the way home Mr Jetplane turns to me and asks... "What happened to us?" Ha ha.

7. Sunday I had to return things to Target and TJMaxx. FYI- my TJMaxx isn't a Home Goods...yes please feel sorry for me. I stopped at JCP for their Friends and Family Sale. I haven't shopped inside a JCP in years. I did my office desk online, but that doesn't count. I have been looking for blue/navy pillows for our living room. JCP was having buy 1 pillow for full price and get the other for 88 cents. Plus I had 20% off coupon. The striped pillow is normally $40 and the navy velvet pillow $25. I got them both for under $30. Success!! valentine's day valentine's day 8. The parental units are coming tomorrow. I have to pick them up from the Raleigh airport tomorrow evening...

Happy Monday. I have a busy day in the office today thru Wednesday, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off to spend with the parents. Have a great week.

valentine's day "Adios, Amigo!"

To quote Point Break and the late, GREAT Patrick Swayze.

2 wonderful men passed away yesterday, Patrick Swayze and Jim Carroll. Most of you, I'm sure are well aware of the first but some may never have heard of the later.

valentine's day
I've discussed my love for Jim Carroll previously on this blog. I became obsessed with all things Andy Warhol in high school which led to my love for Carroll, so much so that I did my entire research project my senior year research class on him. I was trying to prove he was the last real beatnik... I was a very deep 17 year old girl, who listened to punk rock, loved guys in bands, work doc martins, may have had purplish hair at one point, wore a pair of boys jeans, along with being an honor student and cheerleader... Yes it was an interesting mix... my mother was heartbroken and swore I might be a lesbian...but that's another story for another time...

valentine's day And now... Patrick Swayze, I am truly saddened by the news of his passing. He was a wonderfully talented man who I first fell in love with in The Outsiders and North & South. (FYI- We lived in Baton Rouge during the filming of North & South and my mom was supposed to be an extra...another long story) Mr. Swayze thank you for bringing us all some wonderful movies and characters that will live on forever.

To me you will also be Johnny Castle... and maybe Dalton...yeah always a lil Dalton.

Thank you Mr. Swayze, you will be forever loved and forever missed...

Thank you for giving us this...

valentine's day Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?

As I have talked about from time to time on this lil blog of mine, Mrs. Jetplane is a HUGE fan of all things 80s. As a child born in 1980 and raised by a single parent, someone may have watched ALOT of television and movies.

I fell in love quick and hard for all things John Hughes. National Lampoon's Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Curly Sue, Uncle Buck, Some King of Wonderful, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and Home Alone... Come on people this man was a freaking genuis.

My ALL TIME, most favorite movie in the world is Pretty in Pink. My 2nd favorite movie in the whole wide world... The Breakfast Club.... yes this girl loves the Hughes and Ringwald tag team.
What's #3? Maybe Can't Buy Me Love...

There is just something about 80s movies that can't be found today. I cringe when I see those High School Music idiots in movies trying to remake the perfection that is 80s teen movies this closest that they ever came was Can't Hardly Wait and that was in the late 90s.

Thank you Mr. Hughes for giving us wonderful movies. Thank you for making me love movies. Thank you for giving me movie quotes that I repeat till this very day....

To test your Hughes knowledge... what movie did the following quotes come from:

1. I'm off like a dirty shirt...

2. Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd, we'd like to play a little tune for you. It's one of my personal favorites and I'd like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn't think he's seen anything good today...

3. The next time I have to come in here I'm crackin' skulls.

4. Waiting for your sex?

5. Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.

6. Did you know without trigonometry, there'd be no engineering? Without lamps, there'd be no light.

7. That's a pretty stupid thing to do during flu season!

8. Money really means nothing to me. Do you think I'd treat my parents' house this way if it did?
9. I'm here to kick your ass, and you know it, and everybody here knows it, and above all, you deserve it. In fact, I think it's safe to say that this party is about to become a historical fact.

10. You know, there's going to be sex, drugs, rock-n-roll... chips, dips, chains, whips... You know, your basic high school orgy type of thing. I mean, uh, I'm not talking candlewax on the nipples, or witchcraft or anything like that, no, no, no. Just a couple of hundred kids running around in their underwear, acting like complete animals.

valentine's day OFF WITH HER HEAD!!

Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite movies growing up.
valentine's day I had a VHS tape of that and Robin Hood (the one where he is a fox) and watched them religiously. I could quote them word for word.

And I am over the moon excited about Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. A couple of things about Mrs. Jetplane.

1. I LOVE movies.
2. I LOVE Tim Burton.
3. And in my eyes.... Johnny Depp does NO wrong. From 21 Jump Street to his upcoming Dillinger movie, I love him in everything.

Take a look at these and tell me that it doesn't get you excited!! valentine's day valentine's day

valentine's day It comes out Spring 2010 and its 3D!

valentine's day Movie Review - The Hangover

valentine's day valentine's day The Jetplanes saw this movie Sunday evening after returning from Biloxi. The previews looked funny and I was concerned that all the funny parts may be in the trailer. But I'm delighted to say, I was not disappointed in the least bit.

This movie is seriously funny. But be warned - its dirty and inappropriate...just like I like my dark comedies. Very Bad Things is one of my favorite movies, and I was worried that this would be similar to it, but it is very different version of a bachelor party in Vegas.

Go see it... you'll laugh your ass off, we did. I think this is definitely a movie that I will buy.

To watch the trailer click here...

And just for pure fun this morning... check this out as well

valentine's day Oh... Mother Darling..

I finally got to watch Grey Gardens last night... And I adored it...

valentine's day
It was beautiful, heart wrenching, and wonderful The clothes, the crazy characters, the love, the everything... Oh honey...darling... please watch.

I have mad love for Drew Barrymore (pun intended if you picked up on it) and in my eyes she does no wrong.... Posion Ivy and Long Island Lolita included.

By the way... I finished Revolutionary Road and Are you there Vodka during my trip... reviews coming.

And I was also forced to watch Fast & Furious 4... no review required... car chases, half dress girls, and angry men. nuff said... Paul Walker looked hot though... but never took his shirt off :(

Happy Earth Day to ALL.

valentine's day Kicking it Old School

Well with award season upon us and stars being honored for all their amazing movies, I thought I would kick it back a few (several) years and share with you all some of my favorite movies from some of these stars that you may not have known about.

Mickey Rouke - back when he was unbelievably sexy, yes kiddos there was a time when he was fine ass piece of meat. If you want to see for yourselves, please watch the following....

Diner
valentine's day
5 guys in their 20's spend most of their time hanging out in a Diner. It's Christmas time in 1959, and the guys all begin to think it's about time they went about their lives without the comfort of the 'diner'.

9 1/2 Weeks - This movie is hot and makes you want to do naughty things with things with leftovers...

valentine's day
In the often impersonal city of New York, the capital that never sleeps and is filled with the shadows and secrets of its citizens, a man and a woman start a sexually orientated affair.
Kate Winslet

Heavenly Creatures - I believe this was Kate's first movie role. Its very dark but great, and directed by Peter Jackson (uhhh Lord of the Rings guy)

valentine's day
Two girls have an intense fantasy life; their parents, concerned the fantasy is too intense, separate them, and the girls take revenge.
Angelina Jolie

GIA - This is a true story HBO film based upon the tragic life of Gia Carangi, a top fashion model from the late 1970s.

valentine's day

Jeremy Piven

Very Bad Things - this movie has an outstanding cast and is VERY dark, but totally hilarious.
valentine's day
A group of friends head to Vegas for a bachelor party. But was happens in Vegas didn't stay in Vegas for these guys, a little sex, plenty of drugs, and a lot of murder.
Anyone else have some movies to recommend, I'm all ears.

valentine's day You're Golden...

Milo and I are chilling on the couch and watching the Globes. I love award shows unfortunately Milo isn't that in to it, he's snoring some logs right now. Here are some of my thoughts thus far.

1. I want to look like Eva Mendes
2. Kate Winslet is amazingly beautiful.
3. J. Lo looks like she's trying a little too hard
4. I guess I need to see Slumdog Millionaire
5. John Adams was great, I need to watch it again. I don't think I saw all the episodes.
6. Yeah Sookie Stackhouse won....
7. Drew Barrymore is looking hot and I'm really excited about Grey Gardens.

valentine's day Earfcyclopedia (Oscars Edition): Musicians as Actors

valentine's day valentine's day Is there any argument that music and film are perhaps the two most celebrated, recognized and lucrative forms of artistic expression in our popular culture?

Is there any argument that they also generate more arguments than all other popular artistic mediums combined?

So why then, despite our obsessive dissecting, debating, analyzing and chronicling of the two, doesn't there exist a comprehensive list detailing the intersection of music and film? Somewhat related, are you sick of us asking rhetorical questions? Fair enough, we get it.

Less questions, more solutions! In this, our first installment of the Earfcyclopedia - just in time for the Oscars - this glaring omission within the annals of pop culture will stand no longer. We present you with a comprehensive as hell list of musicians who have crossed the line and tried their hands at acting. Sure, other reputable sources such as MTV and Rolling Stone have lamely attempted to chronicle this merging of artistic mediums, but frankly most of those lists suck.

Where's the love for the Kristoffersons, Kowalczyks, and Kiedises of the world (and that's just the K's)?

After the jump, peruse our list of 110+ alphabetized names of musician actors and please feel free to add any we might've overlooked. As well, before the jump you'll find lists of each of our own personal top 5 favorite musician actors. But first, some rules...

The rules are simple. First and foremost, chronology matters. In the arc of said artist's career, first singles, albums or musical performances must come before first pilots, sitcoms, movies or plays (bye bye Brigitte Bardot, Rick Springfield and Jennifer Lopez). And on that note, the musician must have been accomplished enough BEFORE trying acting that it's not laughable to imagine them performing onstage. For this reason, we've struck Bruce Willis from the list even though he was in a band before gaining recognition on Moonlighting. Also, documentaries obviously don't count, it's gotta be fiction or else.

Now - with some accompanying music selections - our own wholly-biased top 5's (with the full realization that as former Oscar winners Cher and Babs deserve to be at the top of an objective list but hey, we like playing arbitrary favorites). Ready?

Matt's Biased Top 5 Favorite Musician Actors

5. Kris Kristofferson - Who is the more manly man, Sam Elliot or Kris Kristofferson? Unless they arm wrestle in public the world may never know. However, I submit Kristofferson's work in Convoy, Blade, and The Jacket as evidence supporting his claim to the title. Something about seeing him on screen is like a big warm blanket of masculinity. And I like it. What??

4. Olivia Newton-John - With Olivia's appearances in Grease and Xanadu it's pretty safe to say that she's forever etched into the hearts and minds of people my age everywhere. Plus, I think there was a brief time in 1982 when I was certain she'd one day be my wife. Or workout partner. Blame the video for "Physical" I suppose.3. Dolly Parton - Her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Steel Magnolias were pretty great; however, Nine to Five is where Dolly really shines. It's easily one of my favorite comedies ever. And Dolly is pure magic in it: "Look, I've got a gun out there in my purse. Up until now I've been forgivin' and forgettin' because of the way I was brought up, but I'll tell you one thing. If you ever say another word about me or make another indecent proposal, I'm gonna get that gun of mine, and I'm gonna change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot!"2. David Bowie - Um, he's Jareth the Goblin King. 'Nuff said.1. Madonna - Number of movies she's in that I own? Nine: Desperately Seeking Susan, Who's That Girl, Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own, Body of Evidence, Four Rooms, Evita, The Next Best Thing, and Swept Away. Number of times I've seen the first two films in that list? Uncountable. Tell me she can't act, go ahead. I'll fight you.
Mike's Biased Top 5 Favorite Musician Actors

5. Reba McEntire - With her work in Tremors, she did what Meredith Baxter (Birney) never could: make being married to Michael Gross appear natural and believable.4. Justin Timberlake - Some may point to his nascent work on the Mickey Mouse Club and cry foul but I disagree. We all loved his dominance over SNL but equally impressive was his ability to shed the boy-band past and play a somewhat convincing thug in Alpha Dog.

3. Ice Cube - More Boyz in the Hood, Friday, and Three Kings, less Anaconda please. Bonus: Cube is also rumored to be playing B.A. Baracus in an upcoming adaptation of The A-Team. Sold.2. Mark Wahlberg - Watching Boogie Nights for the first time was a revelation; it was Wahlberg's confession to having played a long, drawn-out joke on everyone while hamming it up as Marky Mark.

1. Dwight Yoakam - His music isn't really my thing and he may look like Sloth, but goddammit he can act. See: Panic Room, Wedding Crashers. Now, on to the Master List!
