valentine's day What's Good in the Hood

Well I'd like to tell you that the Jetplanes had a relaxing weekend snuggling my the fire (we finally figured out how to use our gas fireplace) and watching the Colts beat the Jags...but sadly I cannot.

Friday we high tailed it up to Boise to pick up our final interior doors for the house. The linen closet door the smallest and the most expensive, had to be custom ordered...BOO. The pantry door, thank goodness, was stock. We also purchased the baseboards for the living room, family room, kitchen, and hallway. We purchased contractor packs, they aren't the glamorously tall and detailed baseboards we originally wanted but hey...things add up so somethings are sacrificed. I am loving my new appliances though:)

After that we met up with a couple from our squadron and ate all you can eat sushi at a new sushi place. Since they just opened (without a liquor license yet) we headed over to Cheesecake factory for drinks and of course desert, yeah I'm a fat ass so what.

Saturday morning bright and early we got up and hung the doors. Be hold all new doors (minus the closet doors on the side those are for the laundry area and our utility room)valentine's day We then headed back up to Boise to enjoy the NIU v Fresno State Bowl game. Mr Jetplane is an NIU alum and I got us 1/2 off tickets on Groupon. Mr had a couple of frat brothers in town as well so we partied it up at the NIU alum reception and then had great seats for the game. We got to watch NIU beat up on Fresno, much to the surprise and anger of a couple Boise State fans that were chatting it up around us. We were rolling deep with some Chicago Southsiders so I'm not sure they knew what could happen if they kept running their mouths.... oh well.

We had a great time. So much fun that we ended up skipping our squadron Holiday party. valentine's day
Hello Smurf Turf!!! I still find it crazy to see mountains in the background. I'm not used to it yet.

After the win we got on the field and them BAM it started crazy snowing!!! It was awesome!

valentine's day
Sunday morning I awoke to the sound of rushing water and then drip, drip, drip. Our roof is leaking...our NEW ROOF. The NEW ROOF that we had put on in order for us to purchase the house. It was dropping water right by Milo's bed and he was freaked out and lil pissed off. Needless to say, we are not happy and the roofer was out here a couple of months ago to fix the problem...obviously its not fixed....mmmm.

Mr decided to open up the ceiling...oh joy! valentine's day I refused to sleep in there last night so we're kickin it in the guest bedroom. Thank God our houseguest left on Thursday...I washed the sheets and threw away the pillows he'd been sleepin on. Mr didn't want to sleep on them either.

Anyway - the rest of yesterday Mr. measured and cut all the baseboards. (Yeah trim...we've lived without since August). We'll start installing tonight. valentine's day We installed the chair rail for the kitchen bead board yesterday. Its crazy how different the house is looking. Its been a lot of work, and we still have more to go, but its really been a rewarding experience seeing the changes the house is making.

Next on the list - PAINTING, we have more coats of white for the stairway, trim, bead board, new doors, and then onto the kitchen cabinets....

We are trying to get as much done as possible before Mr deploys in 2011. Its coming up and no matter what I can't wish it away. When he gets back from the desert we will be totally renovating the 2 bathrooms, so that's something to keep my occupied while he's off doing God knows what over there :)

valentine's day Just a lil taste...

Of the Jetplanes' Fall Decor. Up first is our family room. Let me start off my saying I absolutely hate our fireplace. Its a weird abnormal height, its been converted into gas and has an ugly surround, and the mantle is a baby mantle. But it is what it is for now. valentine's day valentine's day I would also like to say that the wood trim in the windows have been primed and is ready for their last (hopefully) coat of white paint. The 25 year old 1" wood blinds are no longer and will be replaced hopefully in the next month or so. ( I may have worked for Levelor in the past know my blinds people!)

Next up is our entry way. I love it and sorry I don't have better close up pictures.
valentine's day valentine's day The majority of the items come from the Dollar Store, Target, and around the house. I used Harry Potter and Sookie books sans covers to create height on the table. The blood drippings came from the Dollar Store. I have them all over our front windows as well. The wine glass is filled with eyeball gum which I have since devoured. I also have my prized glass skull which I bought at TJ Maxx last year for $4.00 people. I love it. It holds paperclips on my desk the rest of the year. Yeah...I'm a freakshow, I don't care :)
Pay no attention to the rest of the chaos that is our house right now. We haven't put down floor trim yet, you'll notice paint swatches on the wall (from family and living rooms), the missing light switch plate cover from the kitchen (since we ripped all the wallpaper down), and a slightly unfinished gallery wall in the hallway. Our house is a work in progress people :)
I'm kinda sad this year, because I'm usually more into decorating, especially the outside. This year I just don't have it in me :(

valentine's day Come and Knock on Our Door

The Jetplanes have been hard at work on our new (to us) house in Idaho. We purchased the house in all its 1986 glory. I believe there had been 2 previous owners to the property and while a lot had been done to the outside of the property, not a lot had been touched in 20+ years since the house was built. The house is a good house. It has good bones and has a great layout/space. We are really happy in this house. If feels more like home than our home in NC ever did.

But with all that being said, it needs work, it needs updating more than anything. We've all ready ripped up the carpet and laid hand-scrapped wood floors. I love them. I really do. We're in the process of painting the window trim white and we just started replacing the doors.

Take a look at door #1, that would be the guest bathroom. valentine's day

Pretty big difference right? It still needs to be trimmed out, but it already makes the house look 20 years younger and so much brighter.

We purchased the doors stock from Lowes and with our handy dandy 10% off military discount, we saved a lil money. We are also replacing all the closet doors, except those in the master bedroom. Master bedroom/bath is getting a total remodel so we're not changing those out for the time being.

Can't wait to show you more. I'm pretty excited about it.

valentine's day Fake it till you make it...

That's a common motto of the Jetplanes...

As a young married couple (yes we still consider 30 yr olds very young) trying to save money and remodel their 2nd house, fake it till you make it is something we do on the daily. You see I am one that you would call having...champagne taste on a beer budget...that comes to clothes, shoes, and home decor.

So when it comes to the living room we needed something to use as an entertainment center. I had my eye on something similar to the PB option below.
valentine's day
Which can be yours for a cool $3k. ummm yeah not gonna happen at all. So what's a girl to do with oh about zero dollars to spend on this.

Well I decided to pull into 2 book cases that I used in my office in the previous house...valentine's day ala Walmart for around $99.00 a piece. Mr. Jetplane successfully mounted the television on the wall between the bookcases but we still needed something to go in between. valentine's day We needed found a black tv stand at Target. valentine's day In order to bring it up a notch we added a lil hardware from Lowes. FYI these will also be used on our cabinets in the kitchen (when we get around to that). We purchased the tv stand for under $40.
So my entertainment center might not be as awesome as PB's option, but its under $300.00.

Not too bad if I do say so myself... oh sorry for the craptastic pictures, they are all taken with my blackberry...someone has lost the charger for the camera :(

valentine's day Project Get Sexy

Surprise Surprise...I'm still working this program and actually excited about it. Trust me no one is more surprised then me. I'm proud of myself and I love that Mr. Jetplane tells me how proud he is of me after every run. It one of the many things that make me keep going.

Yesterday I finished my 3rd workout from Week 4. Which looks a lil something like this...

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:
Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
Walk 1/4 mile (or 2-1/2 minutes)
Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)

You read that right...At this point I'm jogging a mile and half total. I'm the girl that in order to get out of P.E. took more science classes junior and senior year of high school. Now don't get me wrong... I cheered and was active but I never ran. I hated it.
But this program works and you can actually feel your stamina building....to me that's an awesome feeling.
Now don't get me wrong at the end I think I might die...but I know I'm getting stronger after each and every run. I also recommend trying to do it every other day, I took a 5 day break when we left for Illinois and I felt it yesterday morning.
And since I'm getting serious about this running thing I decided I needed some new running shoes. My old ones were getting pretty nasty since I've been hiking in them lately.
And here the beauties are... my last shoes were Asics per Mr's recommendation and I really love them. Personally, I find them to have more of a cushion on my feet and provide more stability. We stopped in at a Shoe Carnival in Mr's hometown and got buy 1 get the 2nd 1/2 off sale and we both got new shoes. These were on sale from $129.00 to $94.00, before the discount. valentine's day

I wore them on my run yesterday and love them. They are a step up from my previous Asics and I can definitely feel the difference.

So how is everyone else's running going? I hear alot of you have recently started C 2 5k, its awesome isn't it? I'd love to hear your stories.

Project Get Sexy is still pushing right along.

valentine's day Are you ready for some FOOTBALL...

Well football season is almost upon us and the Jetplanes are always excited. We have confirmed our NFL Ticket on Direct TV, made sure the surround sound is set up, we've invited some of our friends to make it a Sunday ritual, and I've been on the lookout for new football gear. And by football gear I mean COLTS gear.

Yeah that's right, if you didn't know already I'm a COLTS fan. I already expressed my disbelief and disgust at Victoria's Secret and their new NFL line. I mean come on VS, no Colts love, no Saints love...ummm what the hell.

But no fear my dear friends... Last season I was happy to find that Old Navy had quite a selection of NFL gear. Not all of it was in women sizes but you could easily find it in Mens or children's. This year is no different. Check it out here . I will definitely be ordering this tshirt and the sweatshirt that goes along with it. valentine's day

No fear Pink Sass Old Navy is showing your boys some love....

Who's got 2 thumbs and ready to spend her Sundays watching football and drinking beer....THIS GIRL!!!

GO COLTS!!

p.s. Gap Give Get Promo is running now so your purchases are 30% off...

valentine's day On the rocks please...

valentine's day I am on the lookout for an awesome bar cart or a cabinet, table, etc. that can easily be used as a bar cart. Perhaps it is well known that the Jetplanes like to partake in adult beverages, right now I'm extremely partial to 3 Olives Cherry Vodka. I also enjoy gin and tonics, wine, champagne, and the occasional light beer...but enough about me and my drinking habits.

valentine's day I want a bar cart and I know exactly where I want it to go in the family room. To my total surprise, Mr. Jetplane is on board for this one. He thinks a lot of my ideas are crazy...I mean really crazy. But luckily I can show him 4 or 5 pictures of what I'm talking about and he now agrees I might not have lost my mind.
valentine's day
Bring on the drinks.... and any suggestions you may have for bar carts... I'm looking for cheap option people, putting in new hardwoods is expensive.

Image 1 from Lonny, no longer have info for image 2 or 3. If you do, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due.

valentine's day This is how we roll...

1st things 1st, thank you all so much for the kind comments and tweets about our 2yr anniversary. That was really sweet and I appreciate it so much. We didn't really blow it out this year, with our recent Vegas trip and upcoming purchase of the 2nd house, we were low key.

We went out to dinner, hit up Lowes* for rock for the backyard, and then home. I had purchased a lil champagne earlier in the week. valentine's day

Yeah baby...that's a clearance sticker on a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, I guess people over here don't like champagne. I got it for $35 from Target. Oh yeah...I'm not too proud to show you how we roll over here. But to be honest, I'm not a champagne snob...especially since moving here and the pickings are sparse. I do miss me some Sophia...that's my favorite champagne.

Too bad Mr. Jetplane doesn't really like champagne...oh well more for me right?

Well in honor of our cheapness, this song comes to mind.... Happy Tuesday.

*If you want to get some customer service at Lowe's where a low cut dress and heels...you'll get plenty of service.

valentine's day Discount Diva

Hello all! First things first... My giveaway ends tonight! Get in while you still can. I'll reveal the winner this weekend.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming....I have recently made some very cute (if I do say so myself) purchases at Tar-jay... my mecca of home goods and needed closet additions... since we've moved, the nearest real mall is 45 minutes away, its as close as I'm getting.

So what have I bought you ask.... well first off, these adorable lil shoes. valentine's day I have paired them with a shift and tights, as well as a dress with leggings. They add a nice pop of color to a black/white and/or gray combo that I seem to wear a lot these days.

I also purchased the following two dresses. But be forewarned these dresses are short and I'm saying that as a girl that is 5'2". I have worn them with tights and leggings. I have paired them with a black and a grey boyfriend type cardigan from Old Navy. valentine's day
valentine's day Finally, what is a Target run without hitting up the jewelry department. I purchased this fabulous necklace for under $20. I dream about pairing it with everything this fall and winter, a crisp, white button down and jeans or adding it to a shift dress. It automatically jumps the simple, plain outfit to the next level. Love it and for $19.99, seriously I can't resist. valentine's day I had hoped to make an Old Navy run last night before Mr. Jetplane's volleyball game in this outfit (FYI this is the 1st time I was to wear leggings in public without a dress over them...It was to be monumental for me). I desperately wanted to pick up a sweater to 2 that were not available in my size on the net.valentine's day Unfortunately for me (or was it a sign) my car was dead. Its still dead...sitting in the garage. Mr didn't get home until 9:30 and he has class all day today. Good thing I work from home :(

Outfit above is black legging from BR purchased on sale, white v-neck Hanes tshirt, grey boyfriend cardigan from Old Navy, grey/silver scarf Target, and Nine West Riding Boots bought at the outlet 2 years ago.

I'll be the first to admit leggings have scared me. I'm short and I was cursed with some thighs... How is everyone feeling about leggings?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway....

valentine's day Random Weekend Ramblings

1. Friday we attended a Brief at the Squadron to discuss what will be our lives after Mr. Jetplane completes flight school. We can stay here, go to England, or go to Idaho. We learned pro's and con's to all of the bases - QOL (Quality of Life), Geography, Flying, Deployment cycle, etc. Mr. Jetplane will get to rank his choices - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. His grades and the needs of the AF will make the decision. We'll know next spring where we are off to and then we'll decide if we're ready to start trying to have a baby or not.

2. Here are some samples of paint colors we've selected for the kitchen. I have paint swatches on a couple spots in the kitchen. I'll post one next to the kitchen cabinets later this week. I prefer the middle. The colors are Limeade, California Roll, and Green Apple.

valentine's day 3. This weekend we took the dogs to the vet to get their shots, got lost in the middle of nowhere because my GPS doesn't even know where we are when we're at our house (since we live in BFE)...just to find out that Mr. (my navigator in life and in the jet) took us the most round about way. We showed up 20 minutes late...FYI its only 7 miles away from the house.

4. We went and saw Couples Retreat on Saturday. It was funny...it wasn't OMG I'm going to throw up because I can't stop laughing funny...but it was funny. Now that we're married you start to think about things differently so the movie touched a cord with us. And we'll always go to Applebee's together... (topic from movie)

5. Out to the movie I sported my new Warriors In Pink scarf I blogged about early this month. *I might be giving one away on this lil blog later this week*valentine's day 6. The Jetplanes took their first time to Sam's Club together this weekend. We bought Gatorade, Garlic Bread, Lunch Meat, Hand Soap, Protein Drinks (Mr.), Granola Bars, Fruit, etc. On the way home Mr Jetplane turns to me and asks... "What happened to us?" Ha ha.

7. Sunday I had to return things to Target and TJMaxx. FYI- my TJMaxx isn't a Home Goods...yes please feel sorry for me. I stopped at JCP for their Friends and Family Sale. I haven't shopped inside a JCP in years. I did my office desk online, but that doesn't count. I have been looking for blue/navy pillows for our living room. JCP was having buy 1 pillow for full price and get the other for 88 cents. Plus I had 20% off coupon. The striped pillow is normally $40 and the navy velvet pillow $25. I got them both for under $30. Success!! valentine's day valentine's day 8. The parental units are coming tomorrow. I have to pick them up from the Raleigh airport tomorrow evening...

Happy Monday. I have a busy day in the office today thru Wednesday, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off to spend with the parents. Have a great week.

valentine's day The Gallery Wall is Up

valentine's day
I've been day dreaming about this for quite some time. I love photographs and I especially love the pictures I have recently received from my mother. They are black and white pictures of my grandmother when she was in grade school, her confirmation, and wedding to my grandfather. I also got a picture of my great grandparents wedding day with my great aunt and uncle as their maid of honor and best man. valentine's day These pictures mean the WORLD to me and I am amazed at just how much my grandmother, mother, and I look alike. valentine's day

I purchased all the frames from Walmart, Target, and Kmart. All were sale and came with mats. Mr. Jetplane helped a great deal in the hanging of all the pictures...with only minimal complaining.

valentine's day PB Style on a PBR budget

I, like a lot of people, fell in love with this... valentine's day

But unfortunately the Jetplanes are not made out of money and I adamantly refuse to spend a lot of money on seasonal decor. Therefore I only buy these items on sale or even better at the end of the season.

I honestly don't even want to go into thinking about how much that look would cost....its ridiculous, but it is awesome... Don't worry if you can afford it...I'm not hating the player...just the game.

So what did lil Mrs. Jetplane do? Well so glad you asked...

First of all I don't have that much space to work with. So I needed to condense the look. valentine's day valentine's day The pumpkins are fake ones that I bought from Michael's last year for seriously 80% off. I thought about painting the them creme last year, even bought the paint but got lazy and didn't do it. valentine's day

The wicker pumpkins are from Michael's regularly $24.99 and I purchase them on sale for $19.99/pc. I purchased the crows, leaves, and straw from Michael's, as well, all for 50% off. Crows were $2.49/pc, leaves $2.99, and straw $5.99.

The lanterns were purchased from Walmart in the Lawn and Garden department. They were regularly $25.00/pc and I bought them for $10.00/pc. I placed some of the leaves in them and then used a battery operated votive in each lantern.

The black metal plant stand, I have had forever. I believe I bought it at Lowes in Lawn and Garden. I have used it in everyone of my past apartments and houses on the balcony or porch as a table. I bought it for around $10 its metal and has held up for 7 years now.

The wreath was purchased at Big Lots last fall for under $10.00.

Yesterday I told Mr. Jetplane that I was going to give our house the PB look for around 10% of the cost. He said, "Great Honey!! What's PB?"

Oh boy...you would think he would have learned by know. He likes the look except he thinks the crows are creepy.valentine's day I think that's why I like them. They had owls too, but they were alittle more expensive, and I'm a tight ass, so they didn't get purchased. Maybe if they go on 75-80% off, I'll pick up an owl or two and some of the larger crows.

So there you go, Casa de Jetplane Fall outdoor decor. I have more home improvement posts coming this week and potentially a giveaway... stay tuned.

valentine's day Mrs. Jetplane's Home Office Update

Well the disaster that was ordering my desk has subsided and I'm happy to report that my new desk is sitting in boxes and un-assembled currently in my garage. I picked it up yesterday morning.

To jog your memories, this is my inspiration piece a la Pottery Barn.
valentine's day
I adore this desk but even on sale at $650 (before tax and shipping) I just couldn't do it.
But after a lot of searching the Internet after the one I decided on was out of stock I selected the one below...
valentine's day

Its from JCPenny and on sale. I got free shipping to the store and bought it for around $475. I purchased the CPU cabinet, rectangular desk top and a 2 drawer unit. I'm getting excited about this new adventure...

valentine's day Mrs. Jetplane's Future Home Office

Well Mr. left this morning for WA state and his survival training. He just called they had to divert for weather and are currently in Huntsville, AL. Luckily there are 5 of them heading out there with the same travel arrangements.
Cross your fingers they get there safe and sound.

Now onto the really important stuff.... my future home office. My job is letting me continue from home (at least that's the plan) and I need a fully dedicated home office to continue to be productive. That includes an 'adult' desk and a door...

My first home office out of college, when I was a sales rep for a well-known consumer product company, included a corner of my living/dining area that was directly next to my television. It wasn't so ideal but living in a 1 bedroom apt is never ideal when you get at least 5 boxes of 'crap' delivered to your house every day and you start telling them to just drop them over your balcony and onto your porch.

Here is one of my inspirations for my home office...

valentine's day
The room was found here. I've been dreaming of a turquoise room with white trim for forever.

I'm going with mostly white furniture however I do have to incorporate our already black bookshelves...us Jetplanes love us some books. These shelves are tall and substantial. So I think this good visual to see how the combo could look together.

Here is the desk, its from Target. I'm going to get a piece of plexi glass for the top of it. valentine's day
Here is the chair, also from Target. I am trying to decide between the white and the black. There is also a lovely mint green color as well that I really love. valentine's day The desk is white, but it could be a little off white, so I'm concerned about getting the white chair so I'm leaning toward the black, however I adore the mint green....

Anyone else work from home? Have any pointers?

valentine's day I'm Just A Girl...who loves shoes

Thank you TJ Maxx for being so helpful in my shoe addiction. Here are some recent purchases and the reason that I am still nursing an injury from my Vegas trip. I totally bit it in the middle of the MGM thanks to one of these lovely babies...

These cuties are Jessica Simpson and I got them for $49.00. They had them in black as well. valentine's day

I purchased these cute pink/orange Kate Spade's for $49.00. I had been eyeing them online for quite some time but never purchased them. But at $49 I couldn't resist.
valentine's day

These BCBG numbers are hot & high & are the reason that the top of my right foot is still sore from my very unladylike fall.

valentine's day

Last but not least... I got my pair of these lovely blue ladies... They are awesome. My friend Lou tracked them down in ATL and mailed them to me.
valentine's day

Yes, as you can see I keep all my 'good' shoes in boxes, either the boxes that they come in or I buy the $1 boxes from Walmart/Target.

Yes, I love shoes!

valentine's day Discount Diva

Hello All... Today I am sporting my recent Target finds....

valentine's day valentine's day
These were on clearance at the Target near my house for $6.98. However, online and at the Target near work they were still full price ($12.99).

I've paired them with a black button up shirt dress which is also from Target and bought sometime last Summer/Fall.

Don't you just love Target... Any recent Target purchases you're just crazy about? Share the wealth....

valentine's day Oh Happy Day (or Night)

Santa Claus came today in the form of the UPS man. And he brought with him this lovely number. Its from the recent Lilly sale on Rue La La and it only cost me $14.20 since I had credits and a return. Now, normally I am not a fan of Lilly, but this really had me at hello... and its even better in person. Its lined in cotton and is a 100% silk.

valentine's day

And finally I promised that I would take a picture of my recent Target purchase. I really like this dress and unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere on line. Its cream and navy. I paired it with open toed brown stacked heels brought a cream cardigan, since it gets a little chilly in my office. valentine's day

Happy Thursday evening...

valentine's day You know what makes my day better...

Wearing this lil number that was just delivered last night. valentine's day

I adore it and am thinking about getting the pink one as well (on sale right now). I have paired it with a white Old Navy tank and a black pencil skirt with satin waist band that I literally found in my closet this morning with tags on it (from Old Navy as well). I had no idea I had this skirt... that may say something for my shopping and my closet.

And I'm wearing my "high" heel black suede open toed Nine West Mary Janes. I feel so much better when I'm in a cute outfit, don't you?

And obviously I'm carrying my bright yellow JCrew tote. What is summer without it...

Sorry I'm blogging about clothes alot, but I've been getting some good deals lately.

Update: Sweater is from JCrew, sorry I forgot to mention that.

valentine's day All MAXI'd Out...

Something you may have guessed by now, Mrs. Jetplane loves dresses. From Spring until the end of Fall I'm in dresses and skirts at work and at 'play'. And this summer will be like last summer, I'm obsessed with Maxi dresses, but unfortunately I refuse to pay a lot of money for the cute dresses I don all weekend long.

Over the past two months or so I've been lucky to pick up some cute cotton numbers from Old Navy and Target. **Remember Mrs. Jetplane is short like 5'2" short and when I wear these with flats they are longer than they appear on the models.
valentine's day
valentine's day
Very funny story about this below dress. I wore it on Sunday running into Target and the Commissary for grocery shopping... I had a cute lil girl spot me about 10 times in Target and every time say... "Look MOM there is that girl in the pretty dress... mom... look... isn't that dress pretty??? Oh Mom I want a pretty dress just like that!!"

Too cute right? Well at the Commissary it was a little different story, I had 3 old sailors tell me that they liked my dress too and a number of stares as well... it was much cuter coming from the lil girl... valentine's day I need to pick up this lil number during my next Target visit....valentine's day

Happy Wednesday to all. Please remember to keep voting for your favorite pug, polls close soon... Someone put up a link to Facebook I see, very crafty...

UPDATE: Questions about length.... I buy XS and the lengths on the Target ones are never a problem. I wear flats and they hit the top of my feet. I prefer them to be to the floor and just my feet peeking out. The Old Navy ones are a little longer, I can wear sandals with a heel, but I honestly don't mind them touching the ground a little. That's just me... that's how I roll...
