valentine's day Packers Vs. Bears Cupcakes

The rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears is one of the oldest in history. Never since 1941 have the two faced each other in an NFC playoff game. We take this VERY seriously here on the Lake Coast, and as you can imagine, people are inventing all kinds of ways to show where their loyalties are. Ding Ding!

In the first corner! We have Foiled Cupcakes, with their BEAR DOWN cupcakes, roaring with ferocity gleaming in blue and orange. Make a correct prediction for this Sunday on their website and you can win cupcakes. See the offer here.

And in the next corner! We have Cupcakes-A-Go-Go in Milwaukee with the pride of green and gold, custom Green Bay Packers cupcakes.

valentine's day Chicago food truck Flirty Cupcakes shut down by local police, now back up and running

From The Wall Street Journal (via Hit & Run), which covers Flirty Cupcakes and other Chicago food trucks being shut down temporarily:

Chicago's rules are for health and sanitary reasons. The City Council is currently considering some changes in food-truck laws. Brick-and-mortar restaurants are fighting the mobile insurgency, chasing trucks from their street fronts, calling police and snapping photos of the vendors in hopes of catching them illegally parked.

Holly Sjo, owner of The Cupcake Counter, a year-old downtown shop, called the cops when she spotted Ms. Kurtz parked near her business in a spot she believed to be illegal.

"She seems to only park next to other people's cupcake shops," Ms. Sjo says.

Ms. Kurtz denies the accusation. "I would never want to do that to another cupcake business," she says.

The food truck concept is "a quaint idea," says Dan Rosenthal, owner of Sopraffina Marketcaffe, a chain of Italian restaurants in Chicago. "But when you get right down to it, it creates an unlevel playing field."

A food-truck operation can get off the ground for under $150,000, while many restaurants spend more than $1 million on real estate and equipment to open their doors.

"It's an elitist thing," says food-trucker Mr. Maroni. "Just step up your game," he says. "McDonald's doesn't ask Burger King if they can open up across the street."

From Flirty Cupcakes on Facebook, today's schedule:

AON Building - Stetson Side 11:30-12:45
Monroe/Dearborn - 1:15-2:30
State/Lake 3:00-4:00
Adams/Wacker 4:30-5:45

You can also follow @flirtycupcakes on Twitter for the latest news.

Some of their fall cupcakes, also via Facebook:

"Great Pumpkin Patch" - A brown butter pumpkin cupcake snuggled in a maple pecan frosting...good grief, there really is a "great pumpkin"

"Cinnahoneystreusel"..yep like Bradgalina, this cinnamon spice cupcake is swirled with a cinnamon, honey cream cheese frosting and topped off with a cinnamon streusel crumble...a partnership made in heaven!

"S'more Me Over" - A moist chocolate cupcake, layered with a graham cracker bottom and a melt in your mouth marshmallow frosting...you may find yourself belting out Kumbaya is if you were by the campfire!

And even though Halloween is over, I wanted to share this spider cupcake, because it made me smile:

valentine's day Street Legal Cupcake Car

Stay-at-home dad Don Rutledge of Oak Park, IL has built the ultimate machine: A completely street-legal cupcake car.

He got the idea from Burning Man Festival, where a troop of cupcake and muffin cars first took to the road a few years ago. With the help of some friendly cupcake car veterans, he bought a kid's bike for $5 at a garage sale and chopped it up, welded together a support seat, added electrical components including a few 12 volt batteries and constructed the body out of aluminum and other insulation materials. It tops out around 25 MPH. In his spare time, it took him about 2 months to build it and he is really enjoying the attention from his neighbors and friends when he rides around in the giant mobile pink cupcake. The only thing he's afraid of is other people causing accidents while trying to snap a picture of it. The other interesting thing is the police say this car is okay to take out on the roads. People in Chicago have already started asking Rutledge how much it would cost to get their own cupcake cars. I don't know how these would fare on Chicago streets with all the potholes and all, but I could definitely see these riding around town in nice weather.

Check out these pics and this sweet video of Rutledge (courtesy of WGN TV) tooling around in the super cute cupcake car:

valentine's day Cupcake Monday: Chicago's Grafton Pub

For $5, get a cupcake and a beer in Lincoln Square's Grafton Pub. This pub is famous for its curry fries, chili cheese mac, and fantastic burgers, but bartenders Kelly Ortigara and Jenny Kawecki are bringing the cupcake love tonight. If there is a good turn out, Cupcake Monday might become a staple at the Irish pub. Sit by the fire, order a Guinness and a cupcake and enjoy The Old Town School of Folk Music's Jug Band Jam with Jonas Friddle starting at 9 p.m.

valentine's day More Cupcakes on the Road

In case you haven't heard, More Cupcakes in Chicago recently put its first cupcake truck on the road in late October. In the first few days, they were giving away free cupcakes galore. They are normally on the road a few days during the week and they hit all the city's hot spots. Part of the joy of the cupcake truck is in not knowing exactly where and when it might show up. Sort of like a quiet Ice Cream Man of cupcakes with the silent song of Twitter.

valentine's day

I was able to try the luscious Cookies & Cream Cupcake along with the Coconut Cupcake straight from the truck. One of the features of this van is that there is a lighted display case right on the side of it. How do they get the cupcakes to stay in place while in motion?! It's a mystery.

valentine's day Jetplanes hittin up the Chi

We had a great time in Chicago visiting with our friends. First things first, we went to the Cubs v. Cards game. valentine's day
Mr. Jetplane loves the Cubs... Mr. Jetplane loves Mrs. Jetplane, his dogs, the Cubs, and BEER... As you can see... he loves beer ALOT!

valentine's day valentine's day
We enjoyed the game, unfortunately the Cubs lost, but won the rest of the series.

valentine's day valentine's day FYI... for those of you planning on attending future Cubs or any games for that matter... never wear this...
valentine's day

Actually, if you ever plan on going outside, don't wear this. For the love of God and all things holy, don't do this to all of us that must look at you...

valentine's day Work is really getting in the way...

Of MY LIFE!!!

There I said it.

I'm back from Chicago and had a WONDERFUL time. However, I do feel like I seriously gained 10 lbs. I haven't ate a 'real meal' since I got there. I'm in a bad way, and I have a wedding on Saturday that I need to look 'good' at. Well, 'good' is a variable term, but still... don't want to look like a fat ass.

Anyway, I'm crazy busy today and hope to blog about the trip some more this evening.

But one thing that had to be blogged about this morning, was the term that my girlfriends and I coined over the weekend... We started saying...."He's having a Massengill moment!" and/or "He's a Massengill!"

You see...what makes it even funnier is that guys don't even know what Massengill is... they think that name sounds familiar, they think they know 'who' Massengill is... but totally don't know its a brand name for a douche. Ha Ha!!! No idea that we're calling you a douche bag or that you're acting like a douche bag... OMG so funny... or at least we thought it was. Well, all day of drinking does make us some pretty funny ladies... if we do say so ourselves.

OMG... I'm pretty sure my body is going through grease/fat withdraws...

Happy Monday
XOXO

valentine's day Jetplanes Getaway...

This time next week, the Jetplanes will be here...

valentine's day

For those of you that don't know, this is Wrigley Field, as in the home of the Chicago Cubs, AKA Mr. Jetplane's favorite sports team EVER. Yes, Mr. Jetplane is a tried and true Cubbies fan. And at the beginning of every season when tickets go on sale, its a crazy day of waiting in 'virtual' waiting rooms to get as many tickets, for as many games as possible.

To be completely honest, it is way easier to get Cubs tickets when they are playing an away game then getting tickets (that aren't over-priced) from the Cubs themselves. The games sell out and they sell out fast.

We, and by we, I mean I sat in that damn virtual waiting room all day. However I did score 6, count em, 6 seats together for the Cubs/Cards game. If you know anything, you know the Cubs/Cards games are the BEST. It a heated rivalry and since they are so close to each other you'll get a lot of the opposing teams fan in attendance. So needless to say we are excited. We may also get to go to the Saturday game as well, we'll see.

We'll be up in Chicago from Wednesday evening until Sunday morning when I fly back to P'cola. Luckily, it turns out over those few days, a lot of our friends are going to be in the city. A college friend is having a bday party on Saturday. And hopefully, I'll get to see lil baby C again who is just getting so big I can't stand it.

Mr. Jetplane is staying in Illinois to visit family and he'll meet me the following weekend in STL for guess what.... another Cubs/Cards game in STL (with my cousin and her hubby) and then a college roomie/sorority sister's wedding on Saturday. Then we are DRIVING home on Sunday.

YES I know its crazy....

But it should be a great time.... Go Cubs Go!

valentine's day Is anyone else excited???

valentine's day valentine's day My Boys is back tonight on TBS. I loved this show last season, and can't wait till tonight. Maybe because its 'set' in Chicago and they love the Cubs (Mr. Jetplane's reason for liking the show) or maybe its because I totally relate to being 'one of the guys'. I love this show, and highly recommend it to everyone.

There was quite a cliff hanger at the end of Season 1....

valentine's day Jetplanes' Midwest Adventures...

The tickets are purchased and we're locked and loaded. Once Mr. Jetplane gets home in the end of March through May is packed full of fun.

March 25th - ATL for Lou's Wedding
valentine's day
April 15-19th - Chicago - I successfully purchased tickets for Cubs/Cards series. Who's the best wife in the world? I am for sitting in the virtual waiting room all day.

April 24-26th - STL - trying to tickets for Cards/Cubs game on 4/24 and K's wedding in suburb of STL on 4/25 at a local vineyard.

May 2-6th - STL - My mom is having her reconstructive surgery in STL. (this isn't 'fun')
